What is required for Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Ballistic Testing?
Both the FRA I windshields and FRA II side windows need to be tested with a .22 caliber firearm. The ballistic test specifications can be found here: Federal Railroad Administration FRA I and FRA II 49 CFR Part 223 Ballistic Standard

The FRA 49 CFR Part 223 standard requires that three (3) identical samples pass the ballistic tests. This means that you can submit more than three (3) samples for testing, but at least three (3) of them must pass. Additionally, the FRA standard requires that the test specimen size must be the size of the largest glazing you ever plan to offer.

In order to provide a FRA type quotation, we need the following information about the test samples:

  • Quantity (How many test samples)
  • Size of each sample (length x width)
  • Thickness of each sample
  • Weight of each sample
