Does CFR Perform Official Body Armor Testing?

Does CFR Perform Official Body Armor Testing?
As far as Body Armor is concerned, we do not perform final certification of compliance testing for Body Armor products. Final certification compliance testing for Body Armor is typically inspected and performed by the certifying organization itself such as in the case for National Institute of Justice (NIJ). We can however pre-qualifiy your Body Armor samples to a ballistic standard and provide you with Ballistic Test reports stating the test conditions and results. Many companies have used Close Focus Research (CFR) for pre-qualification testing of Body Armor products prior to sending their product to the certifying organization for final certification of compliance testing. It is typically cost effective to pre-qualify your products with a third party Ballistic service such ourselves because final certification of compliance testing is usually much more expensive than pre-qualification testing. Typically, if you pass our pre-qualification test, you will pass the final certification of compliance tests. Close Focus Research specializes in Ballistic Testing of non-body armor products for this reason. The majority of the testing we perform is on non-body armor type products. Most of the pre-qualification testing we do on Body Armor is on the hard armor strike plates used to stop Armor Piercing (AP) rounds. The soft material sections are typically tested using a clay backing material to measure trauma. As stated previously, we can perform pre-qualification testing for Body Armor. If you need to perform final certification of compliance testing, then we recommend you contact the certifying organization on how to proceed. If interested in pre-qualification testing, we will gladly issue you a quotation for services.
